Date: 23 August

Time: 7 - 8.15pm

Titled, THE FUTURE OF FILM IS HISTORY, the session repositions the film poster not merely as advertising ephemera, but as a historical artefact— revealing the dreams, aesthetics, ideologies, and anxieties of the societies that produced them.

From the painterly grandeur of mid-century French grandes, to the collage-like pragmatism of East German A1 designs under a planned economy, to the bold minimalism of Japanese tatekans — the session traces how national contexts shaped artistic direction, material choices, and production technologies. The film poster becomes a canvas on which each country projects its cinematic identity.

This is a talk for lovers of cinema, collectors of culture, and anyone curious about the tactile and historical legacy of film poster design.
